I’m supposed to be on an assignment right now, a MAJOR one to add to that. But in the meantime, there’s another one that MUST be accomplished: the Heath Ledger 24-Hour Marathon. I love you, Heath! I’m gonna stink like bad cabbage by the end of the day. But it’s gonna be worth it. Hahaha. Kidding.

There’s a difference between embarrassment and humiliation.

When you’re getting late for church, you grab and wear anything decent and available. Ten minutes later at church, you put your head down to pray and *gasps* you’re wearing a classy sandal on one foot and a worn-out selipar Jipun on the other. That’s embarrassment.

When people come up to you and say.. “Kamu semua pandai-pandai jadi cikgu..” or “Jadi cikgu saja?” or “Oh.. *then sudden change of speaker’s expression plus awkward silence* or “I don’t care about the As. Yang penting sa pass. Last-last sama juga gaji!” That’s humiliation.

While this may be a bit of a cliché, it is a cliché for a reason.

When you’re embarrassed, your face turns red.

When you’re humiliated, your heart’s on fire!

When you’re embarrassed, it’s funny.

When you’re humiliated, not funny!

When you’re embarrassed, you hate the people who keeps reminding you of it.

When you’re humiliated, it could turn into something else!

When you’re embarrassed, it takes a while to get over it but you’ll get over it.

When you’re humiliated, it’s life-defining…

Some people think teachers have it easy. Put yourself in their shoes. I mean, if it fits.

I’ve been so obsessed with cameras lately. Good ol’-fashioned lomos and digicams. I am not really into DSLRs though. Used one of those during my first ever trip to the peninsula and I’ve been intimidated by it ever since! I’m only a fan if I’m the subject. Ha ha ha.. Salute to those with the hands for it! (^^)v

First camera bought with my own moolah: the Olympus Stylus 1050 SW. Costed me RM1200+. Threw me completely off budget! Was planning to buy a Canon half that price bah tu, but this baby gave me the puppy eyes I just CAN’T resist. Hu hu hu.

Number two: the Fujifilm Instax 210 which I was weighing against the Mini 7 in my previous post. And the day I decided to have it was the day I spent RM400 on it (HERE). Yup. If you know me that well, you know when I want something – anything – I’m gonna get it.. usually succeeding with flying unicorns. I’m just saying. Ha ha.

3 November:  My parcel arrived today! Hence the picture above. It’s so “funny” how people who are not used to the Kiulu road can be. The delivery man called me around lunchtime saying he’s at SK Gurugara, an imaginary place obviously. No such school laaa here. He had no idea where he was, sa pun tia dapat tulung. Tiba-tiba di Raniah (?), trus di Guruna (??).. Hadoi.. “Di water rafting spot” ja sa kenal. But whatever, it’s here kan.. yayy.. (^^).

And now I’m up for a third baby! It’s the AgfaPhoto Sensor 505-D. Digital Lomo? How cool is that?! I did mention about wanting the Diana about a year ago (Hunny, I want a Diana Dreamer) but developing the films would burn my pockets! Very “high-maintenance” that one. So yeah, *kaching*!

Ever since I discovered his blog, I have been a regular visitor. Very simple blog interface, but really good content! His stories can be really inspiring, sometimes disagreeable. Yet, quoting from his first ever post : “The views and encounters described in this blog may be insignificant, isolated, or biased.” So yes, he’s only human, trying to make a living out of his endeavours. Reading the comments from other readers, I find admirers, criticizers, haters, but most of them, lovers of his writing. I wonder if he ever responded to the many offers to be interviewed as one of the “Singaporeans That We Admire” and such. What a celebrity taxi driver! I was practically shouting at the top of my voice. Still..

“More loud teacher!”

“LOUDER teacher,” I corrected.

“Apa teacher? More loud bah teacher!”

I need vocal classes good enough to get me heard from down the block, I thought. I couldn’t hear my own voice. First floor girl from across the block in a dialogue with a friend on the second floor directly above me. Third floor boys begendang non-stop. Frenzied students building monuments (picture HERE). And next door boys “singing” heavy metal – banging window panes to the beat. I walk to the back of the classroom to privately witness the bedlam I’m in. Peeking my head out the back window without panes, I see the grand monument. Amazing. A sudden *klang* *klang* *ching* and, whoa, shards of shiny glass explode between my eyes. That scared the jeezess out of me. I trot back to the teacher’s table, and turn my head to the other side. Lovely as the birds and calm like the trees.. *swish* *swooosh* a piece of glass like peluru buta Frisbee itself across the court, hit a pillar, and shatter amidst the sunkissed grass.

I turn to look at the sweet faces around me and they smile. And I smile.

Not trying to self-glorify myself or angkat bakul sendiri but this is what happens..

Why teachers can’t be unduk ngadaus or the other way around:

1. Passing a bunch of male students.

T: *bracing self for a greeting*

S: *singing* unduk ngaaaadaaauuuuwww….. do kaamatan.

T: (x_x)

Apparently, you don’t get as much respect.

2. In the canteen with a bunch of male teachers.

Male T: tuuuna si unduk ngadau..

T: *smile* *smile* awkward but maintain respect for veterans.

Male T: macamana kamu, ok juga sini?

T: bleh tahan lah cikgu.

S: Pagi, cikgu. Siapa Teacher Dierdre?

T: *receiving relief ticket dengan redha, dapat class paling bermasalah*

Male T: alaa.. dia harap2 suda tidak dapat tu.

3. In the office.

Male T1: Cekgu ni ke ex-student isteri saye di Tun Fuad? Cekgu ******?

T: Oh, Cikgu ******. Iya.. Oh, isteri cikgu. Kirim salam lah ngan dia ya cikgu. *smile* *smile*

Male T2: Bukanlah. Ni yang ikut ratu cantik hari tu. Saya lah yang judge dia tu.

T: (>_<) *run*

Ss: *begayut2 di corridor* Masuk sini, masuk sini! Cikgu sini cikgu.

T: *sikit belanggar with one male practicum teacher coz too many human bodies in the corridor*

Ss: Huyooo! Ada jodoh owh cikgu! Wuhuuu..*sambil slapping the male teacher on the back*

T: *entering the classroom*

Ss: *bersorak* Yahooo! *following behind me like ants*

T: *nervously glancing towards the opposite classroom, spotted a senior male teacher looking quite disturbed with the whole thing*

S1: Cigu, cigu! Mintak nombor telefon cigu!

S2: Cigu! Cigu tinggal mana cigu?

S3: Cigu sudah kahwin kah cigu?

S1: Cigu bahhh.. Mintak no tlefon bah ciguuuu…

S4: Cigu orang apa? Putih owh cigu.

S5: Jan kamu kacau bah. *takes a chair and sits beside me*. Sa bodyguard dia ni.

S2: Ahh pok silap! Cigu, dia hisap gam tu cigu.

Ss: Hahahhahahahahhahaha!

S5: *Staring into my eyes* Cigu.. Kctau ja kalau ada orang kacau cigu….

Ss: Hahahhahahahahhahaha!

T: *shivers* Mana yang lain? Brapa orang ja kamu ni? *seeing only about 10, 12 heads*

S6: Escape cigu. Tah drg p mana. Cigu ajar apa cigu? Cigu ajar kami kah?

S1: Kalau cigu ajar hari hari sa datang cigu!

T: (T_T) *crying inside*

Ss: *suddenly storming outside to watch a mini rusuhan happening downstairs* *bersorak-sorak again like hooligans*

T: *happy for the timeout* *Five female students appear from the next door classroom* *At last.. progesterones..*

F1: Hai cekgu. Macam mana sebut nama cekgu?

F2: Cikgu sudah kahwin kah?

F3: Cikgu.. cikgu cute owh cikgu.

F1,2,3,4,5: Ya ya.. Cute owh cikgu. *smile* *smile*

F2: Macam slalu bah nampak cikgu ni.

F4: Cikgu tinggal mana?

F2: Nah kan! blablablabla. *saying something in their dialect which is something like, “Dia lah bah tu.”*

T: *No no no.. the boys again*

S1: Woi na! Datang bah dorang! Balik kamu!

S2: Cigu! Jangan layan dorang ni cigu.. Lesbian ni!

F1,2,3,4,5: Bye cikgu. Bye cikgu! Bye! *scrambles back to class*

T: (T_T) *dying inside*

Apparently, I’m never gonna step into that class again.

I (ter)switched to RTM1 just now.. And ada segmen Araimaiti (Salam Dari Sabah) which airs for about 30 minutes (12.00 to 12.30pm). Was kinda disappointed with the host. She was promoting Tenom and the Murut ethnic, culture and all but she seems like she has no idea what she’s talking about. Tarian Magunatip dia cakap magungnapit. Aiya… urg Sabah bah pula tu…. And one hilarious thing ni satu boliou, kalau satu kali ja dia cakap mungkin org ingat dia tersasul ja tapi balik2 lah pula dia cakap tu perkataan: Ramai sudala yg suda mencabulkan diri dlm bidang ini… alalalalaaa…………..

I woke up this morning to receive a text message from Aunty Ennick (yang best!) informing me about this year’s Unduk Ngadau thing. The Kaamatan spirit, or should I say FEVER, is here! This post is forwarded to all beautiful ladies of Tuaran, Tamparuli, and Kiulu. Yes, I know you’ve all had that long-held dream of wearing that Unduk Ngadau crown. So go get it! Only 16 of you will continue in the hopes of becoming 2009’s Unduk Ngadau (macam ANTM la pula ). A few reminders: Make sure you are Kadazan/Dusun/Murut. Between 18 and 25 years old on 1 May 2009. ‘Single’ as in ‘unmarried’. Cos you know, the lilimbo (the red rattan you’ll be wearing around your hips) actually means something. If you’re a virgin or without child, you wear red. Red with black is for mothers. For students, make sure you claim permission from your school before participating. No negative social records whatsoever. And most importantly, have enough knowledge of yourself, your community, and cultural identity. Obviously, you’ll need it for the IQ session. So, sumandak tangalawa sekalian.. Good luck!
